About this experience

Norway is one of the world's most dramatically beautiful countries, and this 9-day self-drive journey from Oslo to Bergen gives you the freedom to experience it in all its staggering, fjord-carved glory. A 9-day car hire (Toyota Yaris automatic or similar) is included in the package, meaning you travel entirely at your own pace along some of Europe's most celebrated scenic routes. The journey begins in Oslo, the Norwegian capital that effortlessly blends Viking heritage with world-class contemporary architecture and culture. The iconic Oslo Opera House, the extraordinary Vigeland Sculpture Park, the medieval Akershus Fortress and the City Hall (home of the Nobel Peace Prize ceremony) are all on the suggested route. From Oslo, the road north takes you through the Gudbrandsdalen Valley flanked by three major mountain ranges — to the legendary Trollstigen (Troll Road), where eleven white-knuckle hairpin bends climb through one of Norway's most breathtaking mountain landscapes. The Art Nouveau city of Ålesund  rebuilt from ashes after a catastrophic 1904 fire, leads to the UNESCO-listed Geirangerfjord, where your included cruise reveals dramatic walls of rock plunging into impossibly blue water, with the Seven Sisters waterfall cascading 250 metres from the clifftops above. The final leg from the charming fjord village of Flåm through to Bergen includes the Stegastein viewpoint, the Hardangerfjord, the walk-behind Steindalsfossen waterfall and the awe-inspiring 182-metre Vøringsfossen waterfall, before arriving in Bergen: a Hanseatic trading city of extraordinary beauty, where 61 colourful wooden warehouse buildings along Bryggen Wharf are listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
