The case opens outside the Opéra de Monte-Carlo in Monaco, where the first set of notes is waiting. From there the route runs uphill towards the Palais Princier and along the rock to the Musée océanographique de Monaco, then back down to the terraces below. It is a self-guided walking tour in the shape of a detective story, and you set the pace yourself. Monaco is small enough to cross on foot, but it is built on a slope, so there are climbs, stairs and a few public lifts along the way. The route suits families with children, groups of friends, couples and colleagues, and it works for one person too. A team is up to four people on one phone; larger groups buy extra tickets and play as separate teams. There is no guide and no departure time to be at. How to play.
