Mexico City hands you the case on the Plaza de la Constitución, with the Palacio Nacional along one side and the Metropolitan Cathedral on the other. The route goes past the excavated ruins of the Templo Mayor and then west towards the Palacio de Bellas Artes. It is a self-guided murder mystery game, worked out on foot in the historic centre of Mexico City. The centre of Mexico City is flat and laid out on a grid, so finding your way between stops is simple even when the pavements are full. Families with children, groups of friends, couples and colleagues all play it, and it works alone. A team is up to four people sharing one phone, and groups larger than that split into separate teams. There is no guide and no departure time you have to be there for. How to play. The case is the murder of Balthasar. Codes have to be broken, photographs taken at particular points and the statements of digital characters set side by side. The trail crosses Alameda Central and passes the Casa de los Azulejos, where a detail in one account does not survive a second reading. Several teams out at once turns the walk into a race, which is what makes this a workable teambuilding activity as well as a family outing.
