In Malmö the case opens on Stortorget, in front of Malmö Town Hall, and the route runs from there through the old centre. You walk past Sankt Petri kyrka, across Gustav Adolfs torg and up to the edge of Kungsparken before the trail doubles back. It is a self-guided walking tour built around a murder investigation. Malmö is flat and the distances between clues are short, which makes this easy going for families with children, groups of friends and work outings alike. Four people is the maximum for one team on a single phone; larger groups play as two or three teams instead, and there is nothing to stop one person going alone. Clues come as coded messages to unpick, photo tasks to set up, and statements from digital characters that contradict one another. The stretch around Thottska huset and the older houses nearby is where several of those accounts come apart. With more than one team out at the same time it turns into a straight competition, which is why groups use it for teambuilding. Pause for coffee, carry on when you feel like it, and close the case somewhere in central Malmö.
