The Nelson Monument, tucked behind the town hall, is the starting point for this detective game through Liverpool. The trail runs down to the waterfront and the Royal Albert Dock, then back up past St George's Hall. Along the way it takes in the Museum of Liverpool and the streets that connect the two ends of the centre. It is a walk of gentle slopes rather than hills, which keeps it manageable for families with children, groups of friends, couples and work teams. A team is up to four people looking at one phone together; if there are more of you, buy another ticket and play as two teams. Solo players do fine as well. Nobody is guiding you, and there is no fixed departure, so you set off when the docks are quiet or when the crowds suit you. How to play. Before the first clue there are four short steps. Codes have to be broken, photographs taken at specific spots, and statements from digital characters weighed against each other. Near the Walker Art Gallery and again on the approach to the water the accounts start to contradict themselves, and the grid of Victorian streets becomes the ground you search for the answer.
