From there the route works through the centre of Leeuwarden, past the Fries Museum and along the canals that cut the old town into pieces. It is a self-guided walking tour written as a murder mystery, and the city supplies the rest. Families with children, friends, couples and colleagues all play it, and so do solo detectives. A team is up to four people with one phone between them, and anything larger is split across several tickets. Leeuwarden is small and level, which means teams meet on the same corners more than once and the whole route stays inside a short radius.
