The case in Jakarta begins at Masjid Istiqlal and moves out across the government quarter on foot. The route passes the Church of Our Lady of the Assumption, crosses Lapangan Banteng and continues towards Istana Merdeka. It is a self-guided murder mystery game, played through an app, with central Jakarta as the setting. This is city walking in the fullest sense, with wide avenues, traffic and heat to account for, so bring water and pick a cooler part of the day; families with children, groups of friends, couples and colleagues all handle it, and one player alone can do the same. Up to four people share a phone as a team, and larger groups form several teams and go separately. There is no guide and no set start. How to play. Only two things need to happen before you begin. It runs on coded messages, photo tasks and statements from digital characters that do not all hold together. Near Gedung Kesenian Jakarta and around Gedung Pancasila, the story tightens and the number of plausible suspects falls. With several teams playing, Jakarta becomes the ground for a competition, which makes the game usable for teambuilding as well as a day out.
