Innsbruck starts you at the Annasäule, the column standing in the middle of the shopping street, with the mountains closing off the view at either end. From there the route heads north to the Golden Roof, on to Dom St. Jakob and around the Hofburg, then back down towards the Triumphpforte. It is a self-guided walking tour with a murder to solve rather than a commentary to follow. The old town is small and the going is flat, so the walking asks little of anyone and families with younger children manage it comfortably. One phone serves a team of up to four, and a large group divides into teams that head out together. It works for couples, for colleagues on an away day and for a single player with an afternoon free. Send out several teams and Innsbruck becomes a contest between them, which is the reason this doubles as a teambuilding exercise.
