Mount Vesuvius is known worldwide for its devastating eruption of 79 AD, which destroyed the Roman cities of Pompeii and Herculaneum, and still dominates the skyline to this day. Following a late morning pickup from a centrally located meeting point, you will be whisked out of the city where you can enjoy a delicious lunch with the group before embarking on your mountain climb. Then, set off on the 500m hike to the summit. Once at the top you can follow the trail around the impressive crater, enjoy spectacular views of the Bay of Naples to the east and west, and stare down into the depths of the slumbering volcano.
