Inside the ramparts of Galle the walk begins at the Fort Clock Tower. From there it follows the bastions round to the Galle Lighthouse and Flag Rock Bastion, with the Dutch Reformed Church and the Old Gate along the way. It is a murder mystery game you run yourself, using the streets of the fort as the search area. The fort is compact and mostly flat, with a short rise onto the walls, so families with children, groups of friends, couples and colleagues can all take it on, and solo play works as well. Four people form the largest team and share one phone, which means a bigger group splits up and plays as several teams. Nobody is guiding you and nothing starts at a set hour, so the heat of the day in Galle can be worked around. How to play. The whole thing is arranged through your phone before you set out. Codes have to be read, photographs taken at set points, and statements from digital characters compared against one another. Between the Meeran Mosque and the Historical Mansion Museum the accounts begin to conflict, and each puzzle solved takes a name off the list. With more than one team the walk becomes a race to the answer, which makes it a practical teambuilding activity as much as a day out.
