The trail opens in the Jardim Municipal in the middle of Funchal, where the first instructions are collected. It runs from the garden to the Palácio de São Lourenço and on to the Mercado dos Lavradores, then back through the streets in between. This is a detective game played on foot, and Funchal supplies the setting for it. Funchal is built against a slope, so parts of the route climb, though it stays an easy walk for families with children, groups of friends, couples and colleagues, as well as for anyone playing alone. A team is up to four people sharing one phone, and larger groups buy extra tickets and split into teams.
