About this experience

Step into a quieter, more authentic Kyoto on this immersive walking tour through the lesser-explored Higashiyama district. Designed for travelers seeking depth over crowds, this experience blends spirituality, local life, and artistic discovery along a carefully curated route. The journey begins near Ginkaku-ji, where refined Zen aesthetics and landscaped gardens introduce the philosophy of wabi-sabi. From there, follow the iconic Philosopher's Path, not only a scenic canal walk but also a vibrant cultural corridor lined with independent art galleries, small artisan studios, and creative spaces that reflect Kyoto’s living artistic heritage. Continuing off the main path, you’ll discover hidden temples such as Hōnen-in and Shinnyo-dō, where tranquility, nature, and Buddhist practice offer a deeper, more personal perspective on Kyoto’s spiritual life. Encounters with neighborhood shrines further reveal how Shinto traditions remain woven into everyday routines. This tour is available in two distinct formats:. Half-Day Version (~ 4 hours). A focused exploration ending at Okazaki Shrine. This version captures the essence of the area—combining iconic scenery, hidden temples, and artistic encounters—within a shorter timeframe, ideal for travelers with limited time. Full-Day Version (~ 8 hours). A more comprehensive journey covering the entire itinerary. Unlike the half-day option, this version does not include a welcome drink at the start, but instead features a relaxed local drink stop at a neighborhood café after visiting Hōnen-in, offering a natural pause within the experience. A flexible lunch time is also included (lunch budget not included), selected based on the day and guests’ dietary preferences, ensuring an authentic and comfortable moment.
