The first marker in Chania stands at the Küçük Hasan Mosque, right on the Venetian harbour. From there the case pulls you along the quay towards the Venetian Lighthouse and back inland to the Firkas Fortress and Talos Square. It is a self-guided murder mystery game played at walking pace through the old town. The harbour front and the lanes behind it are flat and compact, though the cobbles in Chania are uneven enough that proper shoes help. Families with children, groups of friends, couples and colleagues all get on with it, and a single player can run the whole case alone. A team is a maximum of four people around one phone; larger groups buy extra tickets and go out as several teams. There is no guide and no departure time to be on time for. How to play. The stalls of the Municipal Market of Chania and the rooms of the Maritime Museum of Crete both feed the investigation, and the trail passes Porta Sabbionara and the Church of Saint Nicholas before the picture is complete.
