Your journey begins at the grand Kaminarimon Gate, the symbolic entrance to Asakusa and the Sensoji Temple. The massive red lantern hanging from the gate, along with the fierce statues of Fujin (the god of wind) and Raijin (the god of thunder), make this spot a perfect place for iconic photos. Nakamise-dori:. After passing through the gate, you will find yourself walking along Nakamise-dori, a lively street lined with traditional shops selling everything from souvenirs and crafts to snacks and sweets. It’s a sensory delight, so grab a freshly made taiyaki (fish-shaped pastry) or some agemanju (deep-fried buns) to enjoy as you stroll. Sensoji Temple:. Nakamise-dori leads to the impressive Sensoji Temple, Tokyo’s oldest temple, which dates back to the 7th century.
