The starting address is the Association des Guides-Conférenciers d'Annecy, in the old town, though nobody is there to meet you: the case lives on your phone. From that corner the trail crosses the water to Le Palais de l'Île, goes over the Pont Perrière and climbs to the Musée-Château d'Annecy above the roofs. It is a self-guided murder mystery game, played out along the canals and arcades. Annecy's centre is small and level along the water, and steeper on the way up to the château, so expect one climb and a lot of flat walking. Families with children, friends, couples and colleagues all get on with it, and so does a single player. One ticket is one team of up to four people on a single phone, and a bigger group buys extra tickets and splits up, which is sensible on the narrow arcaded streets when the town is busy. Codes have to be broken, photo tasks completed, and the statements of digital characters compared until the contradictions show. One line of evidence leads to the Cathédrale Saint-Pierre, another towards the Église Notre-Dame de Liesse, and with every puzzle solved the list of suspects gets shorter.
