The trail begins on Canadaplein in Alkmaar, beside the Stedelijk Museum, and runs straight into the old centre. From there it crosses the canals towards the Grote Sint-Laurenskerk, then follows the lanes down to De Waag. It is a self-guided murder mystery game in which the streets of Alkmaar serve as the crime scene. The centre is small and ringed by water, so the walking is easy and the bridges keep bringing you back to corners you have already seen. Alkmaar works for families with children, groups of friends, couples and colleagues, and playing on your own is no problem. A team is up to four people sharing one phone, and a larger party simply splits into several teams. Nobody is waiting for a guide, and there is no fixed hour at which you have to set off.
