The belfry of Aalst is the starting point, and the case unfolds in the streets and squares around it. On the way you pass the historic town hall and St Martin's Church, with the older lanes of the centre in between. It is a self-guided walking tour with a murder to solve rather than a route to admire. Nothing is arranged in advance: you walk, you read, and you decide where to go next. The centre of Aalst is compact and level, which keeps the walking undemanding for families with children, groups of friends, couples and colleagues; solo players get the same puzzles. A team is one to four people sharing a phone, and larger parties simply split up into several teams. No guide comes along, and you choose your own moment to begin. How to play.
